to round off the year, here’s my oc mars, based on an au of my favorite stinky man :)

i recently started hammering away at a ref sheet for him, so i used the opportunity to draw him in a not-ref-sheet pose + practice the new rendering method i found out about + try out some halftone brushes i downloaded. i learned a lot from working on this that i was able to carry forward to last night's beato painting.

little fun fact! On the original rendered Painter drawing I did, his screen actually curves around like a super old IBM computer— it has the lines and everything!

Sure! I use Clip Studio Paint, and here's a list of the brushes I usually use:

Artemus pencil - for sketching and lining (sometimes only)

Artemus chalk - for coloring (sometimes only)

Big Pillow Pencil - for coloring pretty much anything! The way I color with this is by putting a base color- usually blue- and then painting on top with this or otherwise another textured brush and leave less painted the areas in which i want texture or shadows!

This brush is my beloved for lineart most of the time, though I've lost the original assets post (I know it was free though, so no worries on that part!)

These brushes are my beloved for sketching! I like them very much they scratch my brain :]

These halftone brushes also scratch my brain

ahh ty! honestly i wasn't very disciplined when it came to learning anatomy in the past bc i just wanted to do what felt right to me....... ended up with a lot of freaky mannerist type characters with long necks and impossible limbs....

in the last few years i've been trying to practice more with reference pics! i also did a bit of people-drawing on the subway for a while. yet lately i've noticed that i've reverted back to my lazy ways and i don't use references as often as i should, so. i'm always in the process of still learning how to navigate anatomy!

for texture, i like to use brushes that have a lot of crunch built in.. i want to call it aliasing but idk if that's the actual word for it :0 i also like to add on patterns to clothes (halftones my beloved) with a multiply layer!

For... almost everything I use the 6B Pencil, found under Sketching, but modified a little so I can use it more comfortably. I originally just used it to sketch, but I liked it so much I eventually modified it even more to use for lineart!

I think I mostly changed the "Properties" menu - for maximum size. I put it to 30% because the original 9% just wasn't cutting it for me (and I put the max opacity all the way to max)

To add a lineart brush I just duplicated the brush and went to "Grain", where I changed the Depth to 90% instead of max because otherwise the lines weren't completely filled, but now you still get that nice texture!

Of course you can play around with the brush settings as much as you'd like until you get something comfortable for you, this is just how I do it 👍

For lines without texture, cause I sometimes switch up my style a little, I use Baskerville (I don't think I modified that one..?) found under Inking (I also use that one just to color in things)

OH and the halftones you see me use way too much, I made those brushes myself! It took some trial and error but using a halftone brush youtube tutorial I have a bunch of neat ones now 👍👍 (I think I could share those ...if I figure out how - if anybody wants me to)

for the rest, like backgrounds n stuff, I just use random texture brushes I find in the app itself (grid my beloved)

I needed a break from my other WIPs, and I had recently (finally) come up with a design for Malon as she appears in my Sky Pirates story, so I figured a nice little concept art would offer me a good break. This is also how Link will appear in Sky Pirates, although I've had his design for quite a while now. Still not sure about some of the color palettes, so those might change as I continue to refine things, but overall I'm really happy with how my project is coming along, even if the progress is a bit all over the place. I also tried out something new for the hair shading, although I'm not...sure how keen I am about it yet, although it is easier than what I have been doing. I'm also not sure if I'll stick with adding stylistic halftones to the shadows yet or not, but they are fun to add in. My weird semi-hiatus will continue, as this continues to be the busiest part of the year for me.

I completely forgot to post this yesterday because I was still recovering from a medical test and literally just, spaced posting art. Anyhow, my Christmas gift for @therebedraws of her DnD OC Aldrynn, who is a spectacular bastard (affectionate) in both the campaign of her's I'm playing in and in her other campaigns. He ended up being a mix of fun to draw and somewhat challenging due to character design and "wearing a sexy outfit" as a prompt. I rarely use oranges as main colors in art, so this ended up being a really challenging and interesting piece all in all, and I had a lot of fun!

I will be posting on the correct day next week, I just got my days all mixed up again. The final Christmas art, this one for my friend Midori of Annmarie from her webcomic The Search for Henry Jekyll . The Search for Henry Jekyll is coming to an end soon, so when I was given free reign to draw whatever I liked, I wanted to draw one of my favorite characters. The story's really fun, and while I'm sad to see it come to an end I'm also excited to see how the final arc will play out, I would highly recommend reading for those who enjoy suspense and drama mixed with homage to a beloved classic.

This was originally an old sketch from 2019, but I felt like trying to ink and color it digitally to see how that would come along. I remember sketching without a reference, hence the outfits being just whatever I could remember to draw instead of the in-game armor. I have a lot of ideas for other artworks and haven't had a chance to draw these two recently, so it was nice to complete an artwork of them again!

My #1 post of 2022

I have been working on this for...over a month. Which isn't actually that long for this type of illustration, but I do not want to try and emulate the "Skyward Sword official art textured shading" again, not for another year at least (it crashed Photoshop like, five times). I'm not even sure the shading is good, I've been looking at this for too long. I drew the knotted border by hand, but that was somehow easier than dealing with the shadows and highlights. Anyhow! I loved Triangle Strategy, and I loved these two especially. The writers did a good job convincing me Serenoa and Frederica fell deeply in love over the course of the story, and it was just, such a soft and sweet romance. I love the way they love each other. Originally wasn't planning to make this a dancing pose, but that's how the sketch eventually worked out, and I'm happy regardless. At this point I think the "intimate forehead touch" is just my go-to for soft romantic art, not that I'm complaining.

I noticed you keep changing your profile pic, where are you getting so many pictures of Legend with a Christmas hat????

Ndjdjsjd the original one I had was made by an old discord friend years ago, but recently I decided I wanted to stop using Jojo's art as my profile pictures, so I took it down and made a temporary picture of legend myself XD then I asked @liccy if they could help me out with getting a new profile, and they were kind enough to accept my request. This one will stick around for a long time! I love it so much and I keep staring at it!!!! Thank you so much Liccy, you're amazing and you've gone above and beyond 😭😭😭

And the reason they're Santa hat is because honestly I think Santa hat legend is my brand at this point XD

my favourite brushes in clip studio (plus a little bit of insight in how i do lineart and colours i guess????)

yay finally lol here are some of my favourite brushes i use! if you have clip studio these are all free to download in clip studio assets!

and if you have any questions at all i would love to answer them!

will put all of it under the cut since it'll be kind of a long post

i use clip studio paint, the tablet i use is ~3 year old a wacom intuos pro medium, and i prefer using the felt pen nibs! ^^

sketching:

lineart:

Muda Muda Muda by lapinbeau (content ID 1715496) (this one i also sometimes use for sketching and colouring, it's really an all purpose brush to me, i love it! fun name too lol hehehe) Kome Pen (komeペン) by _koi (content ID 1906801) i also quite often use the regular round tip G-pen that comes with clip studio. when i use this one i play around a lot with line weight and varying pressure in my lines to make the lineart look more appealing and... organic i guess? i don't have any fancy settings on the brush itself i only use differing pressure on my hand for this lol. here's the pressure profile on my tablet sngdjkfghs idk if anyone is interested in this but!!!! here you go its nothing special

and then my current absolute favourite brush for lineart is this one called Brush Pen which i also think came with clip studio but i honestly have no idea. it's not in my assets downloads so either it came with the program or it's an older brush i transferred from photoshop, i have no clue! but i love it and i use this one for my lineart and flat shading in pretty much all my drawings rn.

as you can probably tell i like my lineart a bit crunchy and textured. i never use plain black for my lineart, i either use a dark blue/purple or a rich pinkish red or brown. it makes the lines look less flat and muddy together with the colours. i also duplicate my lineart layer, and the duplicated layer i put underneath with a gaussain blur filter on. this one i usually shift the colour to a little more red/pink and also put the blending mode on overlay to sort of blend together nicely with the colours! :) see below what i mean, it looks way fuller and nicer with double lineart i think! but this is just personal preference (i used Brush Pen for lines here btw!)

these are my current favourites! ^^ i don't like using too many brushes at once and i also always keep a balanced limited palette while colouring. here are the ones i'm using rn but i'm currently working on making it just one palette with all the colours i might need. it might take a while because i always forget to add colours i'm using and i want them all to fit nicely together

my colouring is done by using the lasso fill tool to get even flats i can easily select and shift the hues and colour balance of later if i need to. i use the Brush Pen for simple shading, after that i just go crazy with different blending mode layers (multiply and glow dodge my beloveds)

that's pretty much it i think, feel free to ask me a billion questions i love answering them!

When I first saw the snippet from “All These Days” I fell in love with the title, which back then was “Divorced Superhero Lesbian Mommies”, hence why it’s still present in the cover. I mean what’s not to like? It had everything - superheroes, drama, action and yeah… the lesbian mommies. What I usually do when I choose the story is to concentrate and see if the little snippet can give me a visual idea and in this case it was instant - a Comic Book cover.  It was great and so cool – a comic book cover!  Then I got the story and faced the inevitable problem – I have never, ever read a comic book in my life.  When I read the story I felt even stronger about creating this type of art for it, as I thought it would be a nice, funny contrast with the somewhat serious action/angst/drama packed story. So to create this cover, in a span of few weeks I had to correct that gap in my pop culture education.  I knew I want to make an old fashion and more or less kind of old looking comic book cover so I focused on  the 30’s and 40’s  Superman  comic book covers.

Back then the quality of the print was a lot different and so were the color schemes. I noticed a lot of color displacements when the colors were printed one over the other, so I took this little imperfection and used it in my art where colors bleed outside or there are some white gaps around the black contours.  I used the Superman original logo and morphed it into Superhero, I also used the original colors – red, blue and yellow and washed them out a bit so the cover would have a vintage look and of course used the classic halftone effect.

In all honesty this cover was not the hardest one I’ve made but it was definitely the most challenging and because of that it is one of my favorite. I never thought I would ever make a comic book art and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to create that for this gorgeous and exciting story by one of my beloved authors (yes that one was truly an unexpected bonus).
